Properties of active ingredients
Glucoraphanin
Glucorafanina is the natural sulforafhane reservoir with broccoli extract. It is in fact Sulforafano, isothiocyanate derived from the hydrolysis reaction of glucorefanine, thanks to the enzyme ß-thioglucosidase present in the intestinal bacterial flora of the man who has bifunctional activity, ie inhibition of phase I with concomitant induction of glucuronosyl phase transferase II and of the glutathione S-transferase and for this peculiarity, has shown to have a detoxifying effect against the pollutants deriving from benzene and air pollution agents [1]. In addition, glucosinolates in general, precursors of various bioactive isothiocyanates, including phenylethyl isothiocyanate (PEITC) present in broccoli, has a potent inhibiting effect on chemically induced carcinogenicity to the lung and colon
induced chemically in rats and promotes the excretion of carcinogens in humans. [2-4]
Betaine
Betaine or trimethylglycine (TMG), is a molecule structurally constituted by the amino acid glycine with three methyl groups connected to it and has the ability to function as a methyl donor, as it reduces the homocysteine to L-methionine, directly yielding a group methyl, increasing the body levels of S-adenosyl-methionine (SAMe) and of active folate molecules [5,6] Moreover it is an osmolyte compound, that is a molecule that shuttles inside and outside the cell in response to the request to preserve the size of the cell itself, its hydration state, making it more resistant to stress factors [7]
Cystine
The cystine and cysteine from which it derives, is not an essential amino acid, because it is produced by transmethylation that transforms methionine into homocysteine, followed by transulphurization, which transforms homocysteine into cysteine. Together with glutamate and glycine, it is essential for the biosynthesis of antioxidant glutathione and N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC), a modified form of cysteine that helps to degrade mucus and to detoxify harmful substances in the body such as heavy metals. [8,9]
Inulin
Inulin is an oligosaccharide naturally contained in some plants and is metabolized by intestinal microflora and as a prebiotic greatly enhances digestive capacity, assimilation and defense against viruses, bacteria and fungi
L-Arginine
L-Arginine is the nutritional precursor of nitric oxide (NO) and therefore is the key nutrient for the production of it. Specifically, the biosynthesis of NO occurs by conversion of the guanididic nitrogen of L-arginine which, in the presence of oxygen, is transformed into L-citrulline, determining the release of NO, which performs fundamental functions to improve blood flow. This is of vital importance because most people are deficient in the natural production of NO necessary to maintain optimal health because of the incorrect lifestyles of atmospheric pollutants, which increase the need, in fact, of higher NO levels [ 15,17]
Artichoke
Ferulic acid, chlorogenic acid and cynarin components of the artichoke provide strong antioxidant protection from chemically induced toxic insult [25]
Cardo Mariano
Milk thistle (Silybum marianum) is a two-year herbaceous plant belonging to the Asteraceae family whose effects are due to silymarin, a set of three substances: silibine, silidianin and silicristine that act as a defense against various pollutants such as carbon tetrachloride, galactosamine, amanita toxoid phallus (foulidine), alcohol and industrial phenols such as toluene. Furthermore, increasing serum glutathione and glutathione peroxidase prevents the oxidation of lipids and the destruction of cell membranes from free oxygen radicals that are induced by the action of pollutants [26]
Ornithine
Ornithine is a non-essential amino acid, which is formed from L-arginine by hydrolysis with release of urea and participates in the degradation of ammonia, a final product of protein metabolism, thus promoting the proper functioning of the liver and detoxification of the organism especially in conditions of greater stress from endogenous and exogenous factors
Albumin
Albumin, a protein important for homeostasis of the organism, produced by the liver and conveyed in a circle is pi protein abundant in the human body as the 55% of the total protein content, although some cytokines Pro-inflammatory IL6 and the TFN-Alpha that induce Downregulation [10] and regulate production.Albumin being the main responsible for maintaining plasma oncotic pressure plays a crucial role in modulating the distribution of fluids between the intra and extracellular compartments by regulating the capillary permeability.
Also has an important transport function (drugs, hormones, toxins, ions, free fatty acids), antioxidant, scavenger of free radicals, as well as function of buffer as it regulates the acid-base balance in plasma [10].Due to its high negative charge, albumin exerts protective duties through the seizure of toxic substances and chelating action against metals such as copper, zinc, cadmium, nickel and cobalt [11-13]. Finally has a very high antioxidant power as the main source of extracellular sulfhydryl groups, greedy HTS radicals [14].
Coriander
Phenolics, flavonoids, alkaloids of coriander are primarily responsible for its antioxidant activity, antiallergenic, detoxifying. COS like carboxylic acids of his molecule manifest a great affinities in binding the mercury removing inorganco and methyl mercury effectively l Hg2 (CH3Hg), having, moreover, simply cross the blood-brain barrier thanks to mercaptan, a substance to chelating action.Coriandol is therefore able to remove in addition to mercury, cadmium, and aluminum also to reduce the absorption of lead in the bone, causing the inhibition of dehydratase of the enzyme dehydratase of delta-aminolevulinic acid (ALAD), favoring, however, the renal excretion of metal [18-20].
Chlorella
Chlorella, rich natural source of chlorophyll, has a structure very similar to hemoglobin and has a recognized ability to blood purification, kidneys, liver, intestines.Chlorella has been successfully used to detoxify from uranium, chlorocarbon (a harmful insecticide of chlorinated hydrocarbons), PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls) and dioxins. Moreover, having a triple-layer outer cell wall, it has a strong ability to bond to toxins such as cadmium, lead and mercury, and thus acts as chelating agent and excretion of these compounds.Chlorella also contains alginic acid which binds to heavy metals (such as lead and mercury), preventing their absorption. However not able to cross the blood-brain barrier [21-24].
Vitamins
The beneficial activity of vitamins in preventing damage caused by free radicals well known and recently, the use of some B vitamins like Vit. B6, folic acid (Vit. B9), Vit. B12, available in the form of supplements in reducing epigenetic damage from contaminants, been observed in particular after acute exposure to particulate matter would be at the origin of changes in DNA methylation. These changes arise mainly on genes involved in oxidative energy metabolism of mitochondria, where integration with B vitamins appears to prevent these epigenetic changes [27,28]. In addition, the folate activity (Vit B9) is well known as a source of methyl groups essential for the remodeling of homocysteine, as well as for Riboflavin (Vit. B2) and Niacin (Vit. B3) vitamins that support the conversion of acid folic to its reduced active form by means of Methyl-Tetra-hydro-Folate-Reductase (MTHFR) enzyme and finally the Vitamin B12 necessary to mediate the passage of methyl from folate to homocysteine [29.30]. The tocopherol (Vit. E), instead a powerful antioxidant, lipophilic that capturing lipoperossilici radicals, prevents the damage of lipid complex and delicate structures such as biological membranes and lipoproteins and have a protective role in against oxidative damage from contaminants [31.32].
